3 Things Every Charity Golf Tournament Should Focus On

Charity Golf International • May 18, 2020
When you look at a charity golf tournament from an outside perspective they can seem like a large and complicated undertaking and that’s not to say that they aren’t but they can also be broken down into three categories. Once you take a step back a look at each of these categories independently, putting together a successful charity golf tournament starts to seem less like a job fit for a massive event management agency and more like something a well organized golf course can take on without issue.

1. The Players

This one should be obvious, without participants you don’t have a tournament. But there is more to it than just getting players to pay the entry fee. Make sure to find and focus on a target demographic to ensure that your tournament is filled with players that will be more inclined to make donations to the cause that you are supporting.

But just because the players showed up to the course the day of the event doesn't mean that your work is done there. Giving your players the best possible experience is your top priority once the tournament gets started. Not only is a happy participant more inclined to donate to the charity but they're more inclined to come back to the tournament and they might even bring some friends with them.

2. The Donations

Afterall, the most important thing you’re trying to achieve when putting together a charity golf tournament is to raise money for a good cause, so driving donations is an important part of the entire tournament staff’s job. So ensuring that your volunteers are pushing for donations or at the very least promoting the charity itself can do wonders for your donations. Promoting the charity can oftentimes be the best way to drive donations as it will remind the players why they are there. So make sure the charity’s logo can be seen and seen often.

3. The Sponsors

Sponsors, like donations, are one of those things you really can't have too many of. Not only are they a vital part of funding the tournament and elevating the participants’ experience but they can become a massive asset when it comes to promoting your tournament. The best way to make sure that your tournament has all of the sponsors you need is to offer a wide variety of sponsorship levels so everyone can get involved, from small businesses to larger corporations.

Here’s a list of a few sponsorship levels to offer at your tournament:
  • Hole sponsors
  • Food and beverage sponsors
  • Driving range and practice green sponsors
  • Hole contest sponsors
  • Prize and auction sponsors
